Gates and Portals:

Arlsyn is dotted with both Gates and portals, many of these are stumbled upon by accident while new ones are discovered every-so-often. When this occurs, someone is sent through to discover where it leads, if deemed hostile, steps are taken to close the gate. All known Gates are assigned a guardian to assure that the people of Arlsyn and where ever the Gate leads to remain as safe as possible.

Gates: There are six Major Gates that are protected by the six original races and the elements that they represent - Earth (Elves), Air (Winglings), Water (Shroudlings), Fire (Dragons), Light (Eladris), and Shadow (Kelendrals)- are placed in strategic points throughout Arlsyn, all facing inland so that when you draw a straight line they cross paths. When all of the Gates are unlocked at the same time they create a seventh Gate.

This seventh gate is known as the Gate of Life and is closely guarded by The Council of Seven and hidden deeply in the centre of a mountain called Orod that sits in equal distance to all of the other Gates.

  1. Earth - The Gate of Earth is found in Gala Nodel and is protected by the Elves of Arlsyn who work in shifts guarding the Gate. The Gate is roughly 20 foot high and ten foot wide with a curved top. The Gate itself is formed from stone that has been carved to resemble trees, the top branches creating an arch.

  2. Air

  3. Water - The Gate of Water is found in a subterranean chamber under the Relaevna palace in Sha’dar and is protected by the Shroudlings of Arlsyn who work in shifts guarding the Gate. The Gate is roughly 20 foot high and ten foot wide. It is believed to be much larger, however part of the Gate is hidden beneath the underground lake that takes up most of the cavern.

  4. Fire

  5. Light

  6. Shadow

Portals: Arlsyn has a habit of ‘hijacking’, for a lack of a better word, portals do to the nature of Arlsyn’s creation. It often connects with the portals of others, most commonly those that are cast during storms, or at night. The possibility of this is an attraction of magnetism.

Portals cast by Arlsynians resemble pools of water that have been turned on their edge. The more unstable or disturbed they are, the more they ripple, when a large object passes through, the ‘liquid’ centre spirals out like a reverse whirlpool.
