Kelendrals
Appearance: Kelendrals generally have dark hair that range from dark blond, brown, blood red and black. Physically they are slender with athletic builds and aristocratic features. Men average about six foot with women in the upper five-foot range. Eye colour is varied.
Clothing: The Kelendral are drawn towards dark shades, preferring black above all else. Clothing itself is made out of durable material that has been UV protected, it is this protection that turns the materials dark during the dyeing process.
Diet and the drinking of blood: Kenedrals have a metabolic disorder that contains a malfunction in their body’s synthesis resulting in the lack of heme. The lack of heme results in a lack of oxygen in the blood and also a lack of iron. As a result, the race must ingest blood generally from humans, elves or other bipedal races as they are the richest source of heme. While they can live by simply drinking blood either by glass or vein they do prefer taking it from organs that contain the most blood – the liver, the spleen and the heart. These organs are dried and turned into powder which can be placed in any normal liquid that they choose to drink and is preferred when dinning with other races so as not to freak anyone out. They need some sort of source either actual blood or the powder at least one time a day to stay healthy
Another way to survive is by elevating glucose intake; this is, however, a temporary ‘fix’ until a source of blood is found.
Side effects: If a Kelendral does not receive a blood transfusion it can, and does, result in the receding of lips and gums, necrosis of the skin and lesions over the body, effectively becoming a walking corpse. Extended periods without heme or glucose results in a growing bloodlust that must be corrected if not corrected it results in madness with little to no recovery. Often times the Kelendral is ‘put down’ to prevent useless slaughter and to protect the race.
Photosensitivity: The Kelendral have ‘frail’ skin and as a result have an aversion of the sun. When their skin is exposed to any UV rays it results in a sever discomfort or sunburn that results in blisters and sever scarring of tissue. This is generally taken care of by being fully clothed at all times and having a high amount of heme in their system.
Elongated Upper Canines: The elongation of upper canines are a result of evolution and size can be changed at will except for in cases of rage or arousal. The reason for the elongated canines is simple. It allows for a clean ingestion when a donor needs to remain alive.
The elongation of the canines are also affected by the chemical reactions that take place in the body during rage or arousal. The madness and blood lust resulting from a lack of heme also floods the body with the combinations of epinephrine and endorphins.
Geographical Environment: The Kelendral live in the Western Continent of Arlsyn in a plane just below the Kelendral Mountains. The city is made out of volcanic rock and out of the black volcanic glass that is plentiful in the area.
